Amber Portwood is clearing the air about her connection with Dimitri Garcia. When Teen Mom OG returned for a fresh season in January, fans had a rare peek of the couple conversing through Facetime. While some assumed that there was difficulty in paradise, Amber revealed to E! News exclusively that they are still in contact and dating.
“I hadn’t seen Dimitri in 11 months,” she said. “I still adore him, and we still chat. He’s a kind man. He’s a wonderful person.” Amber went on to say, “I’ve never met a more genuine man in my life. You can’t throw away someone like that for 11 months.
To sit there and claim that I know what will happen tomorrow or when he will return would be a lie. No, I don’t say we’re boyfriend and girlfriend; I say we’re dating. My whole attention right now is on my personal development and my children.”
Amber stated that she is focused on being the greatest mother she can be to her 2-year-old son James, whom she shares with ex Andrew Glennon, and her 12-year-old daughter Leah, whom she shares with Gary Shirley.

Amber Asked Her Daughter What She Thought of Dimitri?
Mom was pleasantly surprised by her response. “‘What do you think about Dimitri?’ I asked Leah one day, and she said, ‘I don’t know. ‘I like him,’ I say “Amber confessed everything. “She’s not one to lie, as she said when I inquired about another one, ‘No, I didn’t like him.’ That’s all Leah.”
The author of Never Too Late stated, “If Leah doesn’t like someone, it means a lot to me… She simply wants to see her mother happy, just as her mother wants to see her happy.”
And, as many children did during the COVID-19 pandemic, Leah is able to attend school in person twice a week while concurrently pursuing her virtual education. Amber describes the middle schooler as a straight-A student who aspires to be a doctor or lawyer someday.
But when Leah approaches her pre-teen years and spends more time with Gary and his wife Kristina Shirley, Amber notices a shift in her daughter. According to the MTV star, Leah is not scared to inquire about her mother’s history. As a result, Amber is cautious about how much she shares.

Why Amber Portwood Is Saying Goodbye to Her Boyfriend, Dimitri?
Amber told out about her troubles with her Belgian beau when they were worlds apart on Tuesday night’s season 9 premiere of Teen Mom OG, telling MTV producer Townsend that Dimitri “had been calling me nonstop” during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I need to be conscious of this dynamic because I’ve previously been in domineering relationships,” Amber, 30, explained.
“From a distance, he’s possessive; he has to know what I’m doing all day every day,” she claimed. On Tuesday, Dimitri did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. Amber received a WhatsApp video call minutes later from Dimitri, who contacted them from his native nation and inquired what she was doing.
“I’m outdoors wondering why I’m getting a million messages,” she explained. Dimitri responded, “but it’s not my fault,” he explained, adding that he contacted her frequently “because I think of you. I adore you and miss you terribly.”
“There are times when I feel like it’s getting a little much,” Amber admitted, referring to their constant communication. “It’s becoming a really possessive situation, which is not good.” “Being questioned by someone so much at a moment like this is simply something that I don’t need at all while I’m dating,” she continued.

Amber later discussed her relationship with ex Gary Shirley, informing him that she had ended her connection with Dimitri. “We aren’t boyfriend and girlfriend,” she said. “He got to the point where he was phoning and messaging multiple, multiple, multiple times throughout the day.”
Despite the breakup, Amber stated that she was “ok for the time being.” Earlier in the show, the MTV actress told her castmates — Cheyenne Floyd, Catelynn Lowell, Mackenzie McKee, and Maci Bookout — that she and Dimitri hadn’t “seen each other in seven months” owing to the pandemic.
