Dave, the former president of international distribution at Disney’s movie studio, died unexpectedly at the age of 47, shocking his admirers and others in the industry.
A spokesman for the late novelist confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that he died on Saturday night at his home outside Austin, Texas. The cause of his death has not been revealed.
In 2020, Dave Hollis and Heidi Powell Met
Dave’s Instagram is filled with posts about his great relationship with Heidi. According to a February 2021 article in which he related the account of their first meeting, they began dating about September 2020.
Dave stated that while going through his divorce from his former wife Rachel, he has been reading Heidi’s books and listening to her podcast.
A few months into their divorce, he invited the fitness guru (you may recognize her from ABC’s Extreme Weight Loss) to join him on his podcast to discuss the end of romances and life as a single parent.
They never turned on the microphone, instead spending hours getting to know each other.
In the caption of a photo of himself and Heidi on a skiing trip, the author wrote of their first meeting:
“We sat and spoke for four hours. Went over all of the parallels in divorces that chose us.
We each had four children, were transitioning away from partners with whom we’d been working, and had to work through the breakdown of a relationship in public.
It restored my sense of normalcy.”
As time, their relationship blossomed, and the couple went on to set important relationship goals in the next two years; not just as a couple, but also as single parents whose relationship was supported by their separate children.

What Happened to Dave Hollis and Heidi Powell?
Heidi Powell, a well-known fitness trainer, and personality has spoken out in the aftermath of her partner, Dave Hollis, untimely death. Hollis, a lifestyle columnist, and influencer died on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the age of 47, at his home. While the cause of death has not been revealed, his relatives told Variety that he had just been hospitalized for cardiac troubles.
Powell had been in a long-distance relationship with Hollis since 2020 and was his business partner in their Get Healthy online community. She resorted to social media on Tuesday night to express her anguish over the loss of her partner.
Powell said in an emotional post accompanied by a photo of the couple, “This was not how it was intended to end. We both had different ideas about how our narrative would unfold when we posted this photo two years ago today to declare our love and celebrate your arrival. This was not the case.”
Powell expressed her grief by saying, “I am heartbroken and horrified. I’m ill. My children adore you. Our world has been shook. I’ll never be the same again. I’m not sure what the future holds without a portion of your affection. The most beautiful love I’ve ever received. Love from another world. I can’t believe it’s true.”

Powell’s statement went on to say, “I’m at a loss for words. Much too much. There are just too many thoughts, sentiments, and emotions. Too much heartbreak. For your children. Your loved ones. My children. Me. And primarily for you. Dave, you loved me so much.
You adored your children and your community. Your heart was much too large for this earth… I was the fortunate one to witness and experience the magnitude and depth of your infinite love. Being the recipient of so much affection will always be one of my greatest blessings.”
Hollis was well-known in the publishing world, having worked as the Walt Disney Studios’ President of Sales and then as the Chief Operating Officer of the Hollis Company, which he co-founded with his ex-wife, renowned novelist Rachel Hollis. He was also a motivational speaker and author, with his latest book, “Get Out of Your Own Way: A Skeptic’s Guide to Development and Satisfaction,” due out in March 2020.
