Bobby Flay is known across the world as the unstoppable chef whose bold flavors aided in the growth of an even larger restaurant empire. However, America’s most famous chef is just as active in the bedroom as he is in the kitchen. Flay has a reputation for being a ladies’ man, and he has the track record to back it up.
Flay has had a number of relationships, including marriages, girlfriends, and flings. Find out if he’s in a relationship or if he’s content being single.
Bobby Flay Has Been Married Three Times
Flay has a tumultuous romantic past. The chef has been divorced three times, and one of his previous marriages was marred by a public scandal. Here’s a rundown of his previous wives:
In 1990, Flay met his first wife, Debra Ponzek, during a Meals-on-Wheels event. He was a 26-year-old chef at the time, working at the modest Manhattan eatery Miracle Grill, and she was a chef at the exclusive fine-dining establishment Montrachet.
He proposed after only a few weeks of dating. On May 11, 1991, they married in front of 225 guests at the Rainbow Room in New York City.
Both chefs were nominated for the same James Beard Award in 1992, following Flay’s major splash as the chef of Mesa Grill (Rising Star Chef). Flay attempted to drop out of the race, but his plea was denied. Ponzek won the medal, while Flay grabbed the title the following year.
The marriage, however, ended in 1993. Ponzek now runs Aux Delices, a premium foods franchise and catering firm in Connecticut. She is currently married to Gregory Addonizio, her business partner, and they have three children.
Flay married Kate Connelly, his second wife, on October 1, 1995. Connelly was a co-host of Robin Leach Talking Food, which aired during the early days of the Food Network, and he was riding high on the success of Mesa Grill and Bolo, two of New York’s hottest restaurants at the time.
In April 1996, Connelly gave birth to Flay’s only child, Sophie. However, by 1998, People claimed that the couple had split up and shared custody of Sophie. The reason for their breakup was never revealed, and Connelly disappeared into obscurity.
Despite his unsuccessful relationships, Flay appears to take his parental responsibilities seriously. “I was a little nervous about being a dad at first, but now I think I’m doing very well,” he said. He told People in 1998 that he had “ten tea parties a day” with her, and they celebrated her 21st birthday in 2017 with macarons and creme brûlée at a posh café in London.
Sophie seemed to adore both of her parents. Check out this May 2020 Instagram post in which she refers to Connelly as “the best mum out there”:
For Flay, the third time was not the charm. The chef married actress Stephanie March on February 20, 2005. She was most recognized at the time for her role as Alexandra Cabot, an assistant district attorney in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
The marriage lasted ten years (a Flay record), yet it also fizzled out spectacularly. TMZ revealed a few reasons for the couple’s split in April 2015.
Flay’s decision to skip March last year when her appendix burst was one of them (the outlet reported that he offered to send an assistant in his place). In addition, the chef skipped the couple’s 10-year anniversary in order to attend a food and wine event in Florida.
Infidelity, on the other hand, proved to be one of March’s main concerns. March moved out after finding that Flay was having an affair with his former hostess and personal assistant, Elyse Tirrell, according to Page Six. It wasn’t the first time he had been caught cheating! January Jones was engaged in an automobile accident in Los Angeles in 2010.
Flay was the first person she called, according to the inquiry. Flay denied any wrongdoing, saying to TMZ that the two had just exchanged phone numbers to discuss kitchen design. He stated he had no idea why she had called him first, “but he drove over to assist her… I just wanted to double-check that she was okay.”
March, on the other hand, stated in court papers that he had slept with Jones many times. Flay also had a third mistress, according to his ex-wife, whose identity is unknown.
“They are both happy to begin their next chapter together,” March’s spokesman says of her marriage to tech investor Dan Benton.
Are Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurenitis Dating?
Given Flay’s penchant for women, some may ask if he mixes business and pleasure on a daily basis. Giada De Laurentiis, another Food Network icon, divorced about the same time as Flay, and her marriage was also marred by adultery rumors. Is the on-screen chemistry between the two a hint of a budding romance?
They’ve never confirmed they’re dating, so it’s reasonable to assume they’re simply buddies. De Laurentiis told People in October 2020 that she and her five-year partner, Shane Farley, were still going strong.
Does Bobby Flay Currently Have A Girlfriend?
Following his March divorce, Flay began his final long-term engagement with actress Heléne Yorke, whom he dated from 2016 until 2019.
He has been dating Christina Pérez, a writer, since 2020, whom he met through common friends.
The celebrity chef appears to be head over heels in love with his new flame. “She’s a real beauty.” On an episode of Throwdown With Michael Symo, Flay remarked of his girlfriend, “I’m really delighted to have met her” (as reported by People). “My life is so crazily busy, and she’s always the ray of sunshine at the end of the tunnel.”
