Costa Titch’s Cause of Death: The Multicultural Rapper Who Took South Africa by Storm Dies at 28

South-African rapper Costa Titch died on 12th March 2023, hours after performing at a music festival. The musician was 28.

Costa performed at Ultra South Africa in Johannesburg on Saturday. Footage circulating on social media appeared to show Titch collapsing twice onstage, in quick succession, during a weekend performance before being lifted up by someone beside him.

Who was Costa Titch?

Costa Titch was a South African rapper, songwriter, and dancer. He was born on January 26, 1995, in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, South Africa, and his real name was Costa Tsobanoglou.

Costa Titch first gained prominence in 2020 with the release of his debut single “Nkalakatha”, which became a viral hit in South Africa. The song sampled the 2000 Kwaito hit of the same name by the late Mandoza, and it was remixed with a trap beat and rap verses by Costa Titch. The song’s success helped him to sign a record deal with Sony Music Africa.

Since then, Costa Titch has released several hit singles, including “Thembi” featuring Boity, “Always” featuring Boskasie, “Great” featuring Frank Casino and 25K, and “Areyeng” featuring Riky Rick and DJ Maphorisa. He has also collaborated with other South African artists, such as Cassper Nyovest and AKA.

Costa Titch was known for his energetic rap style, which blends elements of Kwaito, trap, and hip-hop. He often rapped in a mix of English, Afrikaans, and isiZulu, which reflected his multicultural background. He was also a skilled dancer and incorporated dance moves into his performances and music videos.

Costa Titch’s Cause of Death

While performing at a music festival in Johannesburg, South Africa, rapper, and musician Costa titch suddenly tumbled on the ground. He was helped by a person beside him to stand up. After standing up, he finished his song but soon fell down again.

A video on Youtube is been circulated showing how rapper Titch collapsed on the stage just after finishing his performance.

His team and emergency responders attempted to resuscitate him, but they were unable to save him. His cause of death was not disclosed.

Later, his family confirmed: “Death has tragically knocked at our door,” in a statement on Instagram.

“It is with deep pain that we find ourselves having to acknowledge his passing at this time,” Tsobanoglou’s family said in the post. “We are thankful for those emergency responders and all those present in his last hours.”

His cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Tributes have been paid to the 28-year-old as police investigate what happened.

The young rapper’s death left Ultra South Africa, the event where he was performing, “devastated,” the festival said.

“Costa was a galvanizing voice amongst South Africa’s amapiano scene – a talented rapper, dancer, singer, songwriter, collaborator and friend to the festival,” the statement read.

Akon paid an emotional tribute to his artist on Instagram, praising him for being “hardworking” and noting that he passed away while doing what he enjoyed the most. Akon signed Costa to his Konvict Muzik imprint.

“Costa Titch had a vision that I knew for sure would take over the music industry globally and was on his way to doing just that when god’s plan intervened, Akon wrote. “It’s been a sad day but what makes me feel better is that I know he died doing what he loved doing the most in this world. God bless you COSTA!!!!!”
