According to court documents that PEOPLE received, Elon Musk’s daughter, 18, has been given permission to legally alter her name and gender.
According to court documents, a judge in Los Angeles County Superior Court approved the teen’s motion on Wednesday to legally change her name to Vivian Jenna Wilson. (Her new last name is her mother Justine Wilson’s maiden name.) According to the documents, the judge also determined that Vivian was a woman and ordered that a new birth certificate be issued to reflect the alterations.
Vivian Has Been Contacted by People for Comments. Vivian is one of the five kids that Justine Musk, a 49-year-old Canadian author, and the world’s richest man, a 50-year-old businessman, share. Their first kid, unfortunately, passed away from sudden infant death syndrome in 2002 at the age of 10 weeks.

The decision was initially reported by TMZ. Vivian included a brief statement outlining her request for the revisions in her initial petition, which was submitted on April 18 — just a few days after her 18th birthday.
According to court documents acquired by PEOPLE, she wrote, “Gender Identity and the fact that I no longer live with or seek to be tied to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.”
Although neither the Tesla CEO nor the author has publicly discussed the Decision, Justine shared a portion of a family conversation she had with one of her 18-year-olds earlier this week.

Musk has already expressed his views on preferred pronouns for transgender and nonbinary persons on Twitter. The CEO of SpaceX acknowledged that while he “definitely” supported transgender individuals, he thought “all these pronouns are an aesthetic nightmare” in response to criticism for a since-deleted tweet that appeared to parody the use of preferred pronouns in December 2020. Pronouns stink, Musk tweeted about five months earlier, in July 2020.
One month after his daughter’s court filing, in May 2022, Elon Musk declared his intention to support Republican candidates going forward. In particular, he pledged his support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who in March signed the contentious “Parental Rights in Education” bill, also known as the “Don’t Say Gay” law.
