Florence Pugh Responds to ‘Vulgar’ Online Abuse of Her Physique

When Florence Pugh tweeted pictures of herself wearing a translucent dress at a fashion presentation, “vulgar” social media commenters criticized her physique. Florence Pugh responded by calling them out. What gave you the right to be so vocally offended over the size of my boobs and physique, Pugh asked her 7.4 million Instagram followers on Sunday.

The actor, who has been in the films Midsommar and Black Widow, attended one of Valentino’s runway shows on Friday in Rome while dressed in a pink gown created by the fashion house’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli.

“I was eager to wear it; not a single fiber of my being was anxious. I wasn’t prior to, throughout, or even now following,” she stated. Because men’s nipples are not prohibited under Instagram’s guidelines, the star wrote on Saturday that “[t]echnically they’re covered?” before pleading with society to “release the fucking nipple.”

Pugh, 26, stated that she had foreseen criticism of photos of her wearing the dress, but that she had found it “fascinating to watch… just how simple it is for men to completely dismember a woman’s body in front of everyone, proudly.

What’s worrying is how vulgar some of you men can be, she added. “It isn’t the first time and definitely won’t be the last time a woman will hear what’s wrong with her body from a crowd of strangers.”

Despite the criticism from others, Pugh claimed that she had grown to appreciate the “intricacies of my body that make me, me” and was now “glad about all of the ‘flaws’ that I couldn’t bear to look at when I was 14.”
