In season 2 of “Paradise Lost,” there are references to a woman named Melanie Olmstead that no one seems willing or able to provide any information on, despite the fact that they all know what happened but refuse to go into details despite being goaded repeatedly, particularly by Kayce Dutton (who happens to see her boyfriend Jamie Munson killed due to people trying to protect their land).
Melanie Olmstead is a person
A courageous and talented woman who worked tirelessly to help make Yellowstone a success has died. Olmstead died at the age of 50 from cancer complications, leaving behind her husband and three children.
In addition to working on numerous TV shows such as House M.D., The Shield, Mindhunter, and others, she spent time in Africa doing charity work with women’s education initiatives before beginning her career on film sets around the year 2000.
Her most notable claim is that she was the location lead for “Yellowstone,” which included transporting production crews and equipment all over Montana during filming seasons two through five, which was incredibly strenuous but extremely rewarding given how much people love this show!
The crew member who died in May 2019 was a huge fan of Yellowstone because she had expressed her love for animals, particularly horses since she was a child.
She posted on Facebook about how much she adored her horse Mahogany, whom she described as “my beautiful amazing girl” and who is over 100 years old!

Melanie Olmstead Obituary Yellowstone National Park
Melanie Olmstead’s friends and colleagues gathered on July 30 to remember her. They had gone on a horseback ride the day before in the memory of their friend, who was a huge part of the Salt Lake City and Yellowstone filmmaking communities.
“Melanie Olmstead’s celebration was fantastic!” “Horsewomen, writers, and artists from all walks of life came together,” one attendee wrote about the event. “My heart is still shattered.”
I’m so sorry for all those who have been affected by Mel’s death at such a young age… She set such a high standard for how she treated everyone around her that I can’t imagine anyone ever saying anything negative about her character or actions.” One more thing: if you knew how much it meant to me to have.
