Due to His Controversial Instagram Posts, Scott Piercy Has Lost Sponsors
Scott Piercy, a 41-year-old veteran of the PGA Tour, lost two big sponsors on Thursday because of inflammatory Instagram remarks. A homophobic cartoon mocking former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg and a conspiracy theory about a plot to overthrow President Trump were two of the most popular memes on social media at the same time.
Acushnet’s Titleist and FootJoy brands, both sponsored by Piercy, severed their partnership on Tuesday, according to golfdigest.com. Also ending its partnership with the Las Vegas native was the clothing manufacturer J. Lindeberg.
Both companies’ websites no longer display Piercy’s name or image. After a 1-under-par 71 on Thursday, Piercy finished the Arnold Palmer Invitational at 1-under-par.
“We were made aware of Scott’s post and are disappointed with the lack of judgment used,” the PGA Tour said in a statement.

Statement: “We select our ambassadors to represent us both on and off the golf course,” said a J. Lindeberg spokesman in a statement. Scott Piercy’s assertions were ludicrous and inconsistent with our own.
Since then, we’ve ended things with Mr. Piercy. While J. Lindeberg does not condone Piercy’s views, we want to make it clear to our customers, workers, and other brand ambassadors that we do not tolerate any form of prejudice or hatred in our company.
On Instagram, Piercy, a professional golfer who has won four PGA Tour tournaments since turning professional in 2001, apologized for any offense caused by his posts. Please accept my sincere apologies if any of my recent story posts have been deemed insensitive. In the future, I promise to do better!
