The Shang-Chi actor said of appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “I’m such a big fan of both the characters and the actors who play them.” Simu Liu is teasing that he will soon interact onscreen with other Marvel actors.
The 33-year-old Shang-Chi actor revealed during a conversation with PEOPLE on Friday night at the Academy of Motion Arts & Sciences Sci-Tech Awards that another Marvel superhero movie with his character interacting with prominent comic book stars is in the works.
Liu praised being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying, “I’m such a big fan of both the characters and the actors who play them, so any collaboration is an opportunity for me to work alongside someone who, in their own way, is breaking barriers and at the very top of their game.” “As a performer and a fan, I think that’s what excites me the most,” the performer said.

He hinted at a potential future superhero team-up by saying, “And who knows, they might see something sooner than you think.” “Let’s see,”
Although there hasn’t been any official word from Disney or Marvel regarding a Shang-Chi sequel, fans can currently look forward to Liu’s highly anticipated role in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which will be released later this year.
Being on the set of the Barbie movie, he told PEOPLE, was a great “opportunity” because it was so dissimilar from his work on Shang-Chi.
He admitted that accepting the offer to be a part of the upcoming movie was “very humbling.” I feel incredibly honored to have even been given the chance to collaborate on projects with such amazing auteurs.
Liu continued, “[I’m honored] just to get to do something completely different than the Marvel thing and fighting, and letting it be about the dance and the color and the vibrancy of that movie.

Liu talked about his time on the Margot Robbie-starring film’s set in December after the release of the first teaser, joking that it was “so much fun” to film.
“All of that, including the laughing and dancing. On set, we experienced that each and every day. Therefore, it is actually surreal to see that in a work form now because we simply felt like we were having fun the entire time “He clarified.
Liu continued, “But I’m really eager for people to watch more. I believe there will be one more trailer released prior to the film, but I can’t wait for viewers to see it because I think it’s great to keep them guessing.
The movie Barbie premieres on July 21.
