Matteo Berrettini (Italian pronunciation: [matto berrettini]) is an Italian professional tennis player who was born on April 12, 1996. He has reached a career-high singles rating of world No. 6 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) in January 2022, and a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 105 in July 2019. Berrettini has six ATP Tour singles victories and reached the final of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, his highest major accomplishment. In addition, he has advanced to the quarterfinals or better in each of the four majors.
Berrettini turned professional in 2015 and won two ITF World Tennis Tour singles titles and three ATP Challenger Tour singles win before breaking into the top 100 of the ATP rankings in May 2018. He reached his first ATP Tour final two months later at the 2018 Swiss Open, where he won his first championship and broke into the top 60 for the first time.
Ajla Tomljanovic Is Matteo Berrettini’s Girlfriend
Tomljanovic was born in the Croatian city of Zagreb on May 7, 1993. She had only advanced past the second round of one Grand Slam, the 2014 French Open, until 2021. She did, however, reach a career-high ranking of 39 in April 2019, despite initially focusing on doubles.
Tomljanovic has never won a WTA competition despite reaching four finals, including the Hua Hin Championships in Thailand in February, where she was defeated by Dayana Yastremska. After competing for Australia at the 2014 US Open, the tennis player moved her national allegiances from Croatia to Australia.
Despite receiving permanent status, she was required to represent Croatia in non-Grand Slam competitions until January 2018, when she was granted full Australian citizenship.
Matteo Berrettini, Who Is He?
Matteo Berrettini is a ninth-ranked Italian tennis player in the world (June 2021). In 2019, he reached the semi-finals of the US Open for the first time in his career before falling to Rafael Nadal in straight sets. And in 2021, the Italian is in good form, having advanced to the fourth round of the Australian Open before being forced to withdraw due to injury before his match against Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Last month, he advanced all the way to the quarterfinals of the French Open, where he put Novak Djokovic to the test before falling in four sets. After reaching it through the match, world number one Djokovic was spotted screaming with relief.
Is Berrettini Dating Tomljanovic?
The couple had been photographed shopping in Austria, and it had been believed that they were growing fairly close. Berrettini was competing in an event in Vienna, and Tomljanovic’s WTA season had ended.
If that wasn’t enough of a hint, fellow tennis player Maria Sakkari let everyone know by replying to the Instagram picture with a slew of love-heart emoticons. And now that their relationship is public, the two athletes are frequently spotted at each other’s games cheering for their partners.
“I feel ten times more stressed watching her match than when I’m playing my match,” Berrettini remarked. As a result, I enjoy it when we both play at the same time.
“I was the first to finish, around five minutes ago.” Because I’m playing best of five, I didn’t know if she won her match because the score wasn’t displayed. So I thought to myself, “Perhaps she finished before me, maybe she’s coming here.”
Berrettini and Tomljanovic Have a Wonderful Understanding of Each Other
Berrettini mentioned a few months ago that dating someone who understands the Tour’s responsibilities is beneficial.
“As a teenager, I didn’t think of myself as a future tennis star.” As a result, I lived my life as a typical adolescent. I lived in Rome for a while and had a good time, but I never went out or did anything crazy. As I progressed and improved, I realised what a professional tennis player’s life is like: spending 10 to 11 months travelling around the world.
It takes a long time to adjust. Now I’m dating Tomljanovic, which is a good thing since she gets me and understands the rigours of the trip. On occasion, my family tries to accompany me on my travels. “I don’t see them as often as I’d want, but they’re glad to see me having fun in this dream,” Berrettini added.
Berrettini joked last week that he has to let Tomljanovic practise with him or they will fight. Berrettini last competed at the Australian Open, where he was defeated in the semifinals by Rafael Nadal.
