Who is Tooka?
Shondale Gregory, better known as “Tooka,” was a 15-year-old Chicago boy who went by his street name rather than his given name.
How did he die?
Tooka was standing at a bus stop on January 12th, 2012, waiting for his bus when a car pulled up directly in front of him. After exchanging a few words with a passenger outside the car, the young man was shot multiple times. At the scene, Tooka was pronounced dead. Even so, he was in a position to dash to the nearest hospital.
What was the reason behind his cruel murder?
He was a member of the Gangster Disciples in Chicago, and was known as Tooka (GD). Many believe that his death by gunshot was the result of the gang’s retaliation for the killing of a fellow member of the Black Disciples (BD) gang, Eddrick Walker (aka Ty), a 17-year-old who was a follower and member of the BD.
To exact revenge for Tooka’s death, GD gang members assassinated Odee Perry, a 20-year-old BD gang member. According to the Daily Mail, Gakirah Barnes, Tooka’s closest friend, may have been responsible for the death of Odee Perry. “One of the most notorious female gang members in US history,” according to The Mail.
Retaliation for the murder of Odee Perry continued with the murder of Tooka’s best friend at the age of 17 in 2014 and it was expected retribution.
Why does the rapper King Von have so much hatred against Tooka?
A fellow gang member of King Von, a rapper from the O Block in Chicago’s south side, dubbed him Odee Perry. The founder of Black Disciples, David Barksdale, better known by his street name King Dave, is King Von’s great-great-grandfather.
This song, “Smoking Tooka,” is a reference to the conflict between Chicago’s various gangs and their members’ verbal attacks on each other via song or social media.
Smoking Tooka is a term used to describe potent marijuana, according to the dictionary definition. Shondale ‘Tooka’ Gregory was killed (smoked) by Chief Keef’s crew Black Disciples after he was a member of the crew. It is now being used to “humiliate” Shondale’s death by referring to her smoking.
“Tooka in my lung, I say that every time, ’cause he got smoked,” raps King Von in his song.
Tooka’s return to the news after eight years is due to this one line of hatred, which is why social media users are speculating about King Von’s hatred for Tooka..
One Redditor explained that he believes the animosity toward King Von stems from Tooka beating him up at some point in the past.
“F*** Tooka we killed him” can be heard in the video above. After eight years since Tooka’s murder, his name is finally trending due to a video that was first shared on Instagram and quickly gained a large following.
Tooka is one of several gang members who were brutally killed and then ribbed on the internet.. One of the few names that can now be recognised around the world, however, is his.
